Problems adding Podcasts

Postby avatiach » Mon Jun 12, 2017 3:34 am

Hi All,

After upgrading to 6.1.1 I am no longer able to add some Podcasts. These worked well previously, but no longer. All problematic podcasts show the following error: Error org.jdom.input.JDOMParseException: Error on line 1: Content is not allowed in prolog.

Examples of Podcasts that fail:
http://www.kan.org.il/rss?pid=1017
http://www.icast.co.il/Rss.aspx?ID=410616

This one did work well though:
http://feeds.stownpodcast.org/stownpodcast

Is it possible that the update messed up support in podcasts in non-English (or special chars) languages? Or could I be doing something else wrong?

Many thanks in advance for any assistance!

I'm having the same problem on 6.1.1. An example podcast is the NY Times "The Daily"

If anything is needed to troubleshoot further, I'd be happy to help. My primarily listening to podcasts is through Sonos by way of Subsonic & hope this can be fixed sooner than later :-)

I have exact same issue on 6.1.1 with:
http://downloads.hurricanes.nhl.com/pod ... escast.xml

Error:
org.jdom.input.JDOMParseException: Error on line 1: Content is not allowed in prolog.

I'm guessing Subsonic can't handle the itunes tags in the XML.

Is there a defined mechanism for getting this issue on the bugfix radar? Thanks!

I started having this problem too after the latest update. I've had issues in the past with HTTPS RSS URLs, but this seems new.

License Subsonic Premium
Version 6.1.1 (build fc853b) – May 31, 2017
Server jetty-6.1.x, java 1.8.0_141, HSQLDB, Windows Server 2016 (148.4 MB / 179.0 MB)

Anyone have any experience giving Subsonic more RAM? I tried upping it and the server wouldn't start.

I believe this is being caused by strange characters in XML.
I have not set up a test case yet to see if this properly accounts for the working and failing podcasts listed though.

I just came across this same issue. After a little research, it appears to affect RSS feeds that are UTF-8 encoded. Apparently in UTF-8 XML files, there are 3 bytes of data before the opening <?xml tag, which causes problems for some XML parsers.

I checked the podcast RSS feed that was failing for me, and the 3 bytes were there.

It looks like it can be solved in Subsonic's code by just checking for the 3 bytes and removing them before sending the XML through the parser...

Hopefully Sindre sees this and can fix it in one of the next updates.

I'm also having problems with a specific podcast:

https://bedtime.fm/storytime/feed

I suspect for the same UTF-8 reason.
