Changing from WAR to Stand-alone without loosing settings

I have had Subsonic for a few years when the only version available was WAR with Tomcat running. For ease of maintenance I would like to switch to te Win Stand-alone version and I was wondering what I have to do NOT to loose my settings. Some questions:
-Where are all the setings saved?
-Can I simply back them up in case something goes wrong?
-I am planning to remove Tomcat, do I wait until the stand-alone version is installed?

All settings are kept externally in c:/subsonic, and are not touched when uninstalling.
Hence, changing between war and standalone version should work just fine.
