Setting A Synology 1515+ Network Folder as a Media Folder

Postby OlYeller21 » Thu Jul 06, 2017 12:45 am

I've read through several guides but don't seem to be getting anywhere.

I have a Synology 1515+ with a media folder that is accessible as a network drive (X:). I can read/write in this folder from Windows 10 as if it were a native drive. No problems.

I try to set the music folder in X: as a media drive but get the message "Folder not found" with no music indexed.

I've followed the instructions here as well as several other forums. Nothing I do makes this folder "found" by Subsonic. That includes stopping and restarting the service, which works only when I enter the credentials of the W10 user that has access to the network drive (I tested others for good measure).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS: I'm open to using Subsonic_Synology on my NAS as long as I can migrate my current settings/users. I don't care which machine it's on.

This is how I got mine working. I wanted to mount drive M: (synology share) to subsonic.

Create a New admin user on windows (I named mine "Subsonic")
Set this user to log on the Subsonic service per the instructions you linked. http://www.subsonic.org/pages/getting-started.jsp#1
Using that same admin user "Subsonic".

In your Synology admin portal, create a user with the exact same name "Subsonic" and give that user permission
to your Music share.

Now, Go and restart the subsonic service.
Go into your subsonic web portal and add the network address of your share. For example, I put "\\homenas01\Music"
click save and you'll see it start scanning the drive.

Hope this helps.

Really appreciate the help. I thought making a new user might get it to work - I seem to randomly get messages that only an admin can complete a function on my PC but I'm on an admin account and hitting 'OK' bypasses the message and completed the function.

I was going to try the Subsonic for Synology fork but I'd rather stick with the real deal.

I'll update this thread after I give it a shot in case anyone comes upon this problem later.

It worked! It took some finagling but it worked.

A note to anyone going down this path, you can't use a mapped drive - you have to use the network location. So my music folder on my NAS is drive X: on the PC that runs Subsonic. I couldn't use this - I had to use \\medianas\music instead.

What I'd really like to know is if anyone here has tried Subsonic_Synology.

It's a Subsonic package for Synology and it seems to be kept up-to-date. I installed it easily enough but migrating users doesn't seem easy enough for me and for now, I'd rather use the CPU of another PC to run Subsonic than my DS1515+'s CPU.

I use the Synology package by ghenry22 on my 416j. Works like a charm. I've also posted to the Synology forums asking them to offically support the package.
