Won't Index Several Artists

Postby mboonie63 » Wed Feb 14, 2018 9:11 pm

Hi. I have been having an indexing problem with Subsonic.
I have a large collection of music stored on a Netgear NAS. I am pretty diligent about organizing and tagging, so the vast majority of the files can be successfully accessed by searching Artist (among other things.)
However, there are a few artists that Subsonic refuses to index, e.g. Jon Anderson and Loudon Wainwright III. Curiously, I CAN find their mp3's under "Albums" (as long as I know which one I'm looking for.) I have verified that the files are properly encoded and consistently tagged. (For the most part, they use the codec MPEG 1 Layer III.) Other artists/files with the same integrity and codec are indexed just fine, but I simply cannot get Subsonic to show certain artists when searching Artists. (To make matters more confusing, it DOES index "Jon Anderson & Vangelis"!?!?)
These files are quite organized (\\myserver\music\artist_initial\artist\album.)
I can't imagine it's the number of files, because (for example) there are 162 MP3's for Jon Anderson, across 19 albums/folders, but there are over 330 MP3's for "Yes" across 30+ albums/folders, and those can be easily found by searching for the artist.
What can I check for that could possibly explain this persistent problem?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm having exactly the same problem.

To demonstrate, consider the artist blanck mass

As you can see here in my player, the metadata is A+

Image

So lets search for it in subsonic:

Image

Ok...so that's weird. What is happening. Well, the filename is being interpreted as the ARTIST. I have no idea why that would be, but it appears to be true.

Image

BUT, the artist is also being listed correctly in playlists. So I'm not sure what curious voodoo is going on here.

I have rebuilt my Database twice, and what I share with mboonie above is my files are hosted on nas.

I actually allocate 2Gigs of memory to subsonic, so I'm note sure what is causing the allocation failures or even if they are related.

This is the startup line.
/etc/java-config-2/current-system-vm/bin/java -Xmx2200m -Dsubsonic.home=/var/subsonic -Dsubsonic.host=0.0.0.0 -Dsubsonic.port=4040 -Dsubsonic.httpsPort=0 -Dsubsonic.contextPath=/ -Dsubsonic.db= -Dsubsonic.defaultMusicFolder=/home/david/audio -Dsubsonic.defaultPodcastFolder=/home/david/audio/Podcast -Dsubsonic.defaultPlaylistFolder=/home/david/audio/playlists -Djava.awt.headless=true -verbose:gc -jar subsonic-booter-jar-with-dependencies.jar

Lastly,

On http://URL.subsonic/db.view

I ran

SELECT * from artist where name like 'Blanck%'

Blanck Mass is correctly indexed, I believe:

ID NAME COVER_ART_PATH ALBUM_COUNT LAST_SCANNED PRESENT FOLDER_ID
2291 Blanck Mass /home/david/audio/nusic/Blanck Mass - Dumb Flesh - 2015 (WEB V0)/cover.jpg 4 2018-02-15 05:02:27.0 true 0

So I think this is just a display issue of some sort.
