modify "newest" link?

I have seen a couple posts on here wishing that the "newest" link on the home page showed just newly added albums, and not albums whose artwork had recently been changed. I would love this functionality

I'm sure having that be based on folder modification date makes it much easier, but if we were to want to change it ourselves, would it be difficult? is there a single file we'd need to modify? or more like a suite of files?

is this on the list for a possible future preference setting?
