Network - Subsonic URL Subdomain issue

Hey all,

I'm tired of DYN (Oracle) raising the yearly fee for dyndns accounts (used to be $15, now it's $55?!?!), so I figured I'd either configure a Subdomain DNS entry from my domain name, or use the option in the Network panel to register a Sub-Domain of the subsonic.org site.

When I change it to that option, I get an error:

Code: Select all
Access your server over the Internet using an easy-to-remember address.

[O] Use http://
ngmweb
.subsonic.org

Status: ngmweb.subsonic.org responded successfully, but could not authenticate it.

I have HTTPS enabled (as the original port I was using was getting blocked by my work) on 443, and it's still working right now with my original dyndns address.

I noticed that if I ping the ngmweb.subsonic.org address, it isn't resolving to my correct external IP.

Is this a result of the error? Or am I being impatient with the DNS system?

Thanks!

Have you portforwarded port 4040 on your router, i.e. is http:// yoursubdomain.subsonic.org:4040 accessible from the internet (or whatever port you've configured?

I use duckdns.org for DDNS, it's free, simple and reliable.

I had been using :6695 previously, but I thought that when you enable the HTTPS (:443) it no longer "needed" the other port. I thought I did have it open in my router still though, but I'll double check.

Thanks for the tip on duckdns!

I'll let you guys know.
