Issue with Self Title albums

Postby ok » Mon May 11, 2009 2:38 am

Hi,

First off, Subsonic is great. Thanks Sindre.

When I burn my CDs, I use the format <artist>/<album> - <year>/*.mp3

For those albums that are self titled (i.e. artist = album name), the only information that shows up for the album in Subsonic is the year.

For example, I own the "American Hi-Fi" CD called "American Hi-Fi", whose path is "_Artists/American Hi-Fi/American Hi-Fi - 2001" and shows up in Subsonic only as "2001". If I adjust this to "_Artists/American Hi-Fi/American Hi-Fi 2001", without a dash between the album name and the year it shows up correctly. Of course, the easy solution would be to alter the album names to remove the dash, but I have well over 2,000 CDs to alter.

Is there somewhere in Subsonic that I can adjust for this in the settings, or is this a bug?

Thanks
Scott

Music needs to be saved in the following format /artist/album/songs

The easiest way to move them all around is to download MediaMonkey. It has an auto-organize function that will reorganize all your songs for you.

I've got dashes in plenty of my album titles and Subsonic isn't shortening the Album titles to only what comes after the dash - so I'm not sure what's causing it on your end... It should show up correctly the way that you currently have it organized as far as I'm aware...

I misread your original post. Agreed that is really weird.

I was able to reproduce and yes it only happens when your Artist and Album Folders have the same name other then the - something else.

I do think Media Monkey is your best bet for organizing your music again and removing the dash. A lot faster then trying to do it manually.

Hm, that's an adverse side-effect of a feature I implemented some time ago for removing artist name from the album name.

Some people use the following convention for directory layout:

artist / artist - album / song

For instance:

Audioslave/Audioslave - Out Of Exile/01 Audioslave - Your Time Has Come.mp3

So to compensate for this, I remove the "Audioslave -" part. Didn't consider eponymous albums, sorry 'bout that...

No Problems. Just thought I'd check to see if there was an easy fix. Seems like renaming the self titled folders may be the best solution.

Thanks to all who replied to this topic.
