Official Subsonic App Cant Retrieve the media library

Postby Kafkalasch » Sun Feb 24, 2019 1:58 pm

Hi,

today I bought the Premium license for my subsonic server to be able to use the android app with my personal server. The server works fine and the media library is loaded correctly in the server's web interface. But when I want to use the android's subsonic app, I can register my server and the "Test Connection" button in the settings of the app verifies that the connection can be established. But when I want to load the media library in the app, it tells me that a network error occurred.

I can't find the log file of the app on my android phone so I cannot provide more detailed information on this.

The log files of the server print error messages:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class com.sun.imageio.plugins.jpeg.JPEGImageWriter

but these seem to be only related to the thumbnails not beeing able to be created. The web user interface verifies this. Thumbnails are not shown correctly, but everything else works fine. Googling this error tells me, that the open java sdk has some issues with a package concerning this. I am hosting the server on my raspberry pi with some other service. I would prefer not to switch to the oracle java installation as I do not want to break anything else.

Could you help me debug this? To be able to use the android app is the only reason I bought the premium license. It would be a pity, if it won't work.

Thanks in advance!

Are you using HTTP? I don't know about Subsonic @Raspy but at Windows without HTTPS I need to use also the Port like this subsonic.XXXX.de:4040
@Win it is the Standard Port and of course you have to forward that port in your Router AND because Linux is a bit different may be it is blocked in Firewall.

Yes I am and you are right, I need to use the port like you described. That does not seem to be the problem. In fact, I found out that retrieving the tracks in the category "Random", "Recently added", and so on do work in the subsonic app. Only aksing for the entire Library list result in connection errors. I guess, that because the server is running on an old rapsberry pi 2B that needs some seconds to process the requests, the app stopps because of a time out error. But I can't verify this, as I do not know, where to find any log files of the application.
If I knew that the problem is a slow raspberry pi I would buy a faster one. But I do not want to buy new hardware and spend lots of hours configuring it if I can't be sure that this will solve the problem.
Do you know how to troubleshoot this?

I understand, I'm using a Pi3 and in my opininion it is a Toy, even if some people are doing strange things with that device.

Anyway nothing is easier than this, I've send you an PN with the credits for an Test Account @ my server. It is running at windows but in fact it makes no difference.

Hello there !
I have the exact same problem here :
- Subsonic running on a cubietruck with https access and let's encrypt certificate
- App registers properly the server and i can even play songs when I search for a specific artist or song
- Impossible to display the library though : a network error occurs
- No log on the server... seems more like an app issue to me but I don't know how to go from here

Thanks for any help !
Cheers,

AFAIK If you are using HTTPS you have to change that

Using https

For improved security you can turn on https encryption. On Windows, open the Subsonic Control Panel by clicking on the Subsonic tray icon, then enable https on the specified port (default 443).

On Linux, add --https-port=4443 (or any other port) to SUBSONIC_ARGS in /etc/default/subsonic (Ubuntu/Debian) or /etc/sysconfig/subsonic (Fedora/RPM).

On Mac, look for -Dsubsonic.httpsPort=0 in /Applications/Subsonic.app/Contents/Info.plist and change it to the desired port number.

Note that Subsonic uses a self-signed https certificate by default. This provides encryption but not proper authentication. To use your own certificate you must put it in a Java keystore, then specify the following Java system properties: subsonic.ssl.keystore (path to an alternate SSL keystore), and subsonic.ssl.password (password of the alternate SSL keystore). On Windows, you can set these system properties in C:\Program Files (x86)\Subsonic\subsonic-service.exe.vmoptions. On Mac, you can add them to /Applications/Subsonic.app/Contents/Info.plist.
