Access your server over the Internet NOT WORKING

Postby KAHeintzelman » Thu Apr 18, 2019 4:01 pm

The alleged feature " Access your server over the Internet using an easy-to-remember address" does not work for me at all.
I have tried numerous times in the web interface to set this up, logged in as administrator, and I always get the same error message back.

"Status: Failed to test web address. Connect to subsonic.org:80 [subsonic.org/184.173.73.183] failed: connect timed out (ConnectTimeoutException) "

Should I assume that this "feature" is non-functional, and BS at this point, or am I missing something?

Yes, I have a "Premium Account".

Yes, I have port forwarding setup, in my router. The Subsonic server is accessible from the outside IP address of the router, both on desktop computers and mobile devices.

Can anyone provide and answer, or some advice?

It would be nice to use the "friendly" URL that is supposed to be a feature of the "Premium" account.

I am also curious if this server product, which works pretty darned well, is actually being supported or developed actively, or is it going to be stuck at this version?

Does anyone know?

UPDATE 4:39 p.m. EST
BTW: I am running on a Mac, not that I think that it should have any bearing on the issue, but I neglected to include that technical detail previously.

I just checked and it is working for me. However, I am using version 5.2.1 which is quite old. If I recall right I was having numerous problems with the latest versions, but that's just me. I am in no way saying that there is anything inherently wrong with the current releases.

I don't know if it is being further developed?

Access to my subsonic server using the subsonic.org domain works fine here - latest subsonic version. I would check that your router is correctly configured to portforward whatever port no your using to the correct internal host ip address.

Hi,

I appreciate your input, but as stated in my initial post, I have the port forwarding correctly configured, and I can reach the server from outside, using the IP address only at port 4040, via several desktops, and my iPhone via iSub app.

It is the registering and testing during setup at the Subsonic Domain that is failing.

I have checked the Firewall on the host server, turned it on and off, no change.

There must be an answer, but I have tried all of the obvious things.

My subdomain registers OK. I can only suggest checking your entries in the premium tab.

I don't know about the Mac Version, but @W10 we have a control Panel where we can cofigure the listening port. Standard is 4040 and since there is no SSL you have to add the port to the URL. I'm using my own subdomain and so it is xxxxx.xxxxxx.com:4040 what all my Family Members have to add.
Since it is no SSL Chrome and Firefox are refusing the connection and you have to use extended configuration. May be there are Problems like this ....

Ok so I am not crazy. There is definitely an issue.
I recently upgraded to the newest version (full uninstall and install). Windows 7.
Set everything up the way it was before. Port forwarding successfully, as before.
I click the check for 'Access your server over the internet using an easy to remember address', and enter my old address as before.
I click Save and am up and running, as before.

Several days later, when I was out of the country, its down. I VNC into the host machine and its running. I can hit it from another machine on my internal LAN via 192.168.1.x:xxxx
I was like WTF.
I figured out how to fix it...I have to go into the settings again and hit the Save button again under 'Access your server over the internet using an easy to remember address'
I thought it was just a server issue with the Subsonic name registration, but I can't hit it via hard IP address:port, as before.
Seems this happens every 3-5 days, it loses/disables its own settings, also taking access via IP and port with it.
So that makes me think it is more of a software issue than Subsonic server issue.

Resetting the machine does not fix the problem. Only going into Settings->Network and hitting the Save button again to reapply my settings fixes it, and it works again right away.
I just tested this remotely from the office. I VNC'ed into the host machine to reapply the network settings. Definitely a bug, as I was on a version or two before this for a year or more with no issue.
I could leave the laptop running for months and it would be fine.

How to file a bug report?
