Random, All songs.

I have tried to find a way of starting playback of all my songs in a 'random' (or at least random-ish) order but can't find it. I'm attempting to generate a playlist in Mp3Tag that has the songs in a random sequence, but this seems a convoluted method of doing what seems on the outside to be a fairly straightforward feature. Of course as I add songs to my library I'm going to need to edit that playlist over and over, again and again.

Am I missing something obvious here?

Is there any possibility of allowing users to change the 'shuffle' limit of 40 tracks toa custom value? Personally I have 15,000 tracks that I'd like to shuffle. Others may have more, some might have less.

Having generated a playlist, corrected back slashes for forward slashes, corrected the root directory for that of the NAS and imported it into Subsonic I can now see the playlist. If I open the playlist it appears to have all the tracks that it should have. My problem now is that I can't seem to start playback of any of the music in the playlist. Clicking on any of the Play buttons has no effect. I've tried the big Play button beside the playlist, the individual small buttons by each track, I've tried adding individual tracks to the play queue (which claims to have been successful) but they don't appear in the play queue.

Stumped for now.

SubFire Radio can be used to generate such a playlist, however I have a hard limit of 900 songs max in the playlist itself due to browser issues with URL lengths.

http://subfireplayer.net/radio

For your case, simply create a single station, choose the Random Songs generator, and set the limit to 900, then every so often, come back in and regenerate it.

I don't know the Problem, of course a real random function doesn't exist but there are several possibilities close to it .... since I'm german I will add a couple of screenshots.
First Option -> Left side more.
There is the possibility to add 50 random tracks to the Stack

Open the Stack and choose save as Playlist

Rename the Playlist, Delete the Stack, add another 50 random trackk, use the right white square and choose ADD TO PLAYLIST

Another, better way for me, because I'm older and at my time we was setting the needle at the beginning of the Vinyl and was turning it at the end .... no zapping .... :D

Choose an Album, or even Title. Use the Arrow or the plus sign and add it to the stack. More than 1000 Titles is no problem. My biggest is 1.400 Push a couple of times the shuffle Button ... have a look at your Stack if it is ok for you or push the shuffle Button again and again, until it is enough. It needs some time depending the Titles ...
Save as Playlist .... and if you want, add later ....
