Is it possible to edit tags using API?

Postby grizzly » Wed Jun 03, 2020 2:13 pm

Hi!

I'm wondering if it is possible to change music tags such as artist, title and album via the API?
It would be great to allow 3rd party plugins to edit tags given the right permissions.

Here is the API
http://www.subsonic.org/pages/inc/api/s ... 1.16.1.xsd

So far I see ..... no and with good reason. You can edit the Tags inside subsonic, but I don't try because there are several versions of Tags ID3v1, ID3v2, ID3v2.4 UTF-8, ID3v2.3 UTF-16, ID3v2.3 ISO-8859-1
Not talking about APE, Flac, ALAC, AAC who have also different Tags and different positions inside the Track for Lyrics and so on and so on.
I'm always suggesting MP3Tag, it is regular updated and you are having a lot of handy Tools to organize the Tags, like Discogs, Musicbrainz, Freedb, getting the right filenames, covers, sorting albums even without tracknumbers, writing filenames to track or tag to filename.

one of subsonic's interesting confusions is the difference between Artist and Album Artist - if subsonic allocates for an un-tagged file, it looks to the grandparent folder for the artist name...and then puts that in *album artist*...this then means that you can't change it again because the UI to change it is for *artist*.

a little frustration. any interface is going to be somewhat prejudicial like this in deciding what id3 format it will support and within that, what tags it will actually use. If i really care, i edit through iTunes and then you have to get the file re-read from scratch by touching the folders in some way so the scanner finds them.

As far as I know, there is no other Tool that can handle this (like question in other post)

Mp3tag v2.96 — This version adds support for Opus in files with *.ogg file extension, improvements when copying cover-art via the clipboard and fixes many issues and includes other changes.
See the Release Notes for more details.

Florian is working since 18 Years at this free Editor, it has a big community and a forum to ask Questions. I'm using Apple Smartphone since 2007 but I don't really like iTunes, even if I have to use it because I'm also using iTunes Match, the cloud for 100.000 Titles. If iTunes is handling the Database, it is a real mess for me, but I have switched it off and using my own. The handling of VA and a lot of Artists that are not so common, is awful. Example, Angel, Glam Rock of 70s, there is always the wrong Artist Picture and there are a lot more, or they are missing. Also since the beginning of MP3Player I like ALWAYS Track. Title - Artist, iTunes sometimes uses Track. Artist (ALBUM) - Title, even in 2020 there are small displays like smartwatches and you have 20 Times the same Artist in Front. For me there is only one choice. MP3Tag has also Scripts and variables to make things easier. you can see all Tags of all loaded Tracks at once and edit at one strike. Because my huge database and a lot of free time, I'm working EVERY day at my data, there is no better Tool trust me. Of course It needs some time to use extended features, but as a Programmer you should better understand than me :-)
