files won't scan

Got a Subsonic premium license and am trying to set up on a Mac.
My music is all on an external hard drive but I don't know how to
tell the server where to scan for the files.

an external drive is likely in /Volumes so you need to open a terminal and cd down through there to get to the root folder you want. then 'pwd' in terminal and you'll get the full path to copy-paste into the Settings -> Media Folders section.
