Been havin issues for a while, a lot of my music doesn't play. I don't see anything in the logs. I play a flac file and it never starts to download as if it doesn't start transcoding Ive gone crazy trying to fix this. But some things play great.... download perfect.

Things play great across my local network on my laptop, but not my phone. (locally)

Ive been using subsonic for years, and I'd say this issue has affected me for the last 6 months or so. Is this a product of the software getting out of date.

hmm, I have never been able to get flac files to play
even now with removing m4a from transcoding suggestion that fixed a brand new problem that I got this morning , where m4a always played till today, the suggestion fixed that issue
so I tried the same with flac and no go
so I will continue to use avs converter so I can play the flac's as mp3

unless someone can tell me how to make subsonic play a flac file....it would save a lot of time and hard drive space and be greatly appreciated.

All my files are FLAC encoded and stream natively without a problem to dsub - phone & chromecast & sublime.

You don't say what you're streaming to, maybe it doesn't support FLAC? The only browser I can use with the web client/jamstash is Firefox. For some reason Chrome based browsers won't play although they're supposed to support FLAC.

I have the same issue and actually posted a reply to a similar thread. Funnily enough in the time between then and now I think I've found a sorta-kinda fix. Turn off transcoding. When I do that, ffmpeg no longer a variable and music streaming now works whether in my browser (Edge) or through the "official" Android App. Everything I've tested seems to work so far...I'll update if I run into issues (other than bandwidth which now may be an issue on mobile?).

Are You using Spotify? Then you should consider Spotify as a possible culprit.

I had to find out that the Spotify player has been blocking FLAC files for several versions (probably several months ago) when it is active. Although I did not find this problem in connection with Subsonic (possibly because I do not use transcoding), but rather while trying to write tags, I do not consider it impossible that this could also be the cause with Subsonic.
I solved my problem by going back to an older version of the Spotify player and disabling the automatic update. Disabling updates is not an option in the Spotify-Player, you have to take some effort to do this.

I would test whether the problem still occurs when the Spotify player has not started.

I decided many years ago to convert any audio to MP3@320 fraunhofer lame etcetera. The Trade off for quality Vs size of .wav .ogg .ape .flac with large archives is minimal when compared to mpeg 2.5 Layer III @ 320 Bitrate 48000 Hz for me personally. Unless you plan to amplify your music at a block party it's not really noticebly different at lower levels. btw PCM pulse code modulation of a CD with .WAV or AES3 Vs lossy are even larger so flac is just not hitting home anyway for the problems plus the fact it's huge and not as clear as .wav anyway to mp3.320 48000 Hz will serve you well for normal volume and distortion ranges trust me. I take my music seriously but we all would need a yodabyte to house all the music in lossy Format. If you plan to convert , dBpoweramp music converter has a great batch conversion process option. make sure to install all codecs in the Download Center. It's not opensource so you will need to find a copy or purchase directly.
