Scanning. But Not Scanning

Postby phred » Mon Jul 26, 2021 7:30 pm

Using v6.1.6 on Win10 Pro.

I have automatic scan set for 1800. And it scans. Yesterday I noticed that two newly added albums did not appear after the scan. I manually initiated a scan and while the settings page shows the the scan is taking place, there is no count of the number of files scanned showing in the upper right of the window. The log shows that the scan was completed and the number of files scanned looks correct. Yet these two recently added albums still do not appear. The albums exist and are in the same directory where the rest of my music is stored.

Suggestions?

Still investigating this and looking for some help. I added a new album to my collection and when SS did its daily scan the new album showed up. But the two albums that were added before this one still are not showing up. The problem album files are on the same NAS as all my other albums with the path being Z:\Music_Files\<Album Artist>\<Album>\<Track> - <Title>.mp3. Everything else under the root scans properly.

Any suggestions as to why or how this can happen?

EDIT: I added the paths to the two 'missing' albums to the Media Folders and manually initiated a scan and they showed up. This is a work-around and not a solution. I shouldn't have to add the path to each album when they're all under the root.

Still looking for the reason why this is happening.

I have had this problem for several years and it is frustrating.

Not sure if same issue or not, but I use a PC.
When I add new albums to a folder, for some reason, Windows is not updating the folder Modified date/time even though there is a new folder inside it.
If Subsonic does not see that a folder has been modified, the scan will not pick up and changes.
I found a little utility called "Change Attributes" and every time I add an album, I need to right-click the folder, and change the modified data on folder.
That way Subsonic sees it. Don't need to wait for a scan actually and the album can be played instantly.
It is a laborious step for every add but at least it works.

I would think that if that were the case, SS wouldn't pick up the files when I added the directory as a media folder.

Either way the directory and the files within have the same modified (and created) date, so I don't think that's the issue here. BTW, my Subsonic server is on a Win10 PC also.

595 views and only one reply?? Why am I not surprised?

This issue still exists. Albums added after the two problem albums get scanned with no issue. When I remove the path to the two problem albums and rescan, they still don't show up.

You don't have any odd characters in the folder/file names do you ? Can you cut&paste the full paths here perhaps ?

Thanks for the reply, but the answer is no. No odd characters in the filenames. If there were, then the albums wouldn't appear when I add them as individual media folders.
Here are the paths to the two albums:
\\192.168.1.2\Music_Files\Willie King\Willie King Various Tracks
\\192.168.1.2\Music_Files\Willie King & The Liberators\Parma Italy 2007

All the rest of my music files are in \\192.168.1.2\Music_Files. And they all appear in SS. That's something in the neighborhood of 2,800 albums (37,000 tracks.) But these two albums, for whatever reason, won't appear unless I create individual media folders for them.
