android app no library access error

Attempt to invoke virtual method 'java.util.List net.sourceforforge.subsonic.androidapp.domain.Indexes.getArtists()' on a null object reference
Can anyone tell me how to fix this important function?
I upgraded to the newest version at the Play store (dated 2018 10 06) and I have the same issue.
I also tried https and that does not connect to the server at all.
