I'm real new to this and have some questions

Postby MusicFreak60 » Tue Jun 21, 2022 6:22 pm

Hi there,

A friend of mine can't connect to my music on subsonic
I made login details for him and gave him this url: http://localhost:4040/login.view?login

But noting at all. What can be the problem?
Must he also install subsonic on his computer or is there a problem with his windows 10 firewall.
In last case how can we solve this?
Like to hear. I'm searching for days now.

Many thanks!

"localhost" = the computer your are currently using. If you want your friend to access your Subsonic instance, you need to provide an accessible URL. If you are on the same network, something like http://YourComputerName:4040 , if you're friend is outside of your network, then either your external IP address (like http://000.000.000.000:8080) or a DDNS address (like http://YourName.DuckDNS.org:8080). For external access, your router will need to forward traffic on port 4040 to your computer.

I thought this discussion might help me too.

I have a remote PC and a musicserver PC, where I sign in as admin. I used to be able to see and control the same music on both PCs. Now, if I log in to the musicserver from the remote, I can play a song initiated on the remote PC but I don't see the activity on the musicserver. On the upper right of the musicserver, it shows the song I am playing, but the play/pause control and volume control are not controlling that music (initiated on the remote PC). I can select and play a song on the musicserver and it plays at the same time as the music initiated on the remote PC. I have the settings set to "Jukebox."

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

A Subsonic session is the combination of user + player. If you log onto remote as "MyAccount" via "RemoteWebBrowser", then on the server as "MyAccount" via "ServerWebBrowser", you have two independent user sessions active. Your settings allow you to see what other user sessions are playing, but you have no ability to control those other sessions. As "MyAccount+RemoteWebBrowser" is playing in jukebox mode on server, when "MyAccount+ServerWebBrowser" plays a track, both tracks will play simultaneously.

Sorry for the delayed reply.

Thanks for the explanation. How do I log into the remote and server PCs so that I can see only one instance of the music being played on both and control it from either PC?

My site is down (my host is moving it but it is taking longer than I'd like), but there are apps that can provide what i think is the behavior you want.

My Subfire suite has that ability - two devices logged in as the same user and one of them can enable a remote control listener (you can name it to identify it from other boxes). Then the other box can surf around the collection to find the folder, artist/album, or playlist (or other features of the system like "shuffle songs from artists like <name>" (which uses last.fm to link artists within your collection together). I initially set it up so that you could remote-control your FireTV instance from a tablet. This comes with the version 2 of the apps and above (except Subfire-PL, the playlist editor).

https://subfiresuite.com/ when it is up, hopefully in a few hours tops. (been down all day :/ )

Note since it is an app, you need a license for subsonic.

All SubFire apps are web based (though packaged for FireTV) and free. Subfire 2 and above are all Progressive Web Apps.

I clicked on "SubFire Quick Player" and see a screen but I don't know how to configure or install it. Do you have instructions?

On desktop: once you are on one of the apps, in Chrome (or other Chromium based browser like Edge), the 3-dot menu in the upper right. More Tools, and then either "Create Shortcut" or "Install <app name>", depending on if the browser's decided to process all of the stuff to recognize it is a PWA.

For mobile, I haven't had to do it in a while. you need to be using an https server for your music, or you have to use the http version (browser restrictions). then, 3-dot menu and "add to home screen" should work. Sometimes with https it'll again auto-figure out it is an installable app. That used to be more reliable but Chrome keeps changing the requirements ever so slightly.
