Can't Access Server Outside of my Home Network

Postby jonnydollaraz » Mon Jul 11, 2022 3:03 am

Hello,

I am using the help template from the pinned post here so hopefully this will be enough information.

Problem Description: I just set up Subsonic on my computer today and it's working splendidly when I access the interface while on my local network. But as soon as I try to access it from my phone on the cellular network I get an error.
Troubleshooting Steps: I have checked the settings on the Network tab and made sure the box is ticked to allow auto config of the router. Status shows "Successfully forwarding port 4040. I have also ticked the box to access server over internet and added the subdomain name to the field. Status says "Successfully registered web address." I have also checked my Windows Firewall settings and it is set to allow Subsonic.
Playback Application and version: Have tried the Subsonic Android app and also had a friend attempt to access via browser with my unique address: http://porchlightfm.subsonic.org/
Subsonic Version: 6.1.6 (build 0cfa60) – November 10, 2019
Server Version: jetty-6.1.x, java 1.8.0_152, HSQLDB, Windows 10 (88.8 MB / 97.4 MB)
Hardware Platform: Server is running on Windows 10 Home v 21H2. The phone I'm using to try to connect is the Pixel 4a (5G) running Android 12
Java Memory Limit: 150MB
Problem Filename: N/A
Output from ffmpeg -i: I attempted to gather this from teh command prompt per the guide, but I got a message saying, "The syntax of the command is incorrect." Not sure what I did wrong. Sorry!

The error message I get in the Android app says "A network error occurred. Retrying 1 of 4." It then tries to connect 4 times and then give this error: "A network error occurred. Please check the server address or try again later."

Any ideas what could be the issue preventing access from outside my network?

What comes first to my mind
- did you use your external IP of hostname?
Yes,
- I would place your PC (IP) in the DMZ of your router, that opens all access to your PC.
- https://www.whatsmyip.org/port-scanner/ should show 4040
If above works, you know you'll have to tweak your router some more.
If it doesn't work, try turning of the security features on your PC, firewall, virusscanner (some have a firewall also)
- https://www.whatsmyip.org/port-scanner/ should show 4040
If it works, tweak the security features
Don't forget to remove your PC from the DMZ and turn the security feature ON
