whats the purpose of c:\subsonic\thumbs

1) why does it recollect all the album art there ...for what purpose

2) does it hurt to delete it.?

3) whats the purpose of the different directories inside the thumbs directory

It's a cached thumbnail version of the album art.

No, it just makes rendering the pages which use the thumbnails that much slower as it then have to get the full size album art, re-size it, and then present it

Not 100% certain on this one, but I recon it's the different thumbnail versions ( 70 pixels, 110, pixels, 140 pixels ) which are used in different pages.
E.g. in the start-page when showing random, newest, etc.. it's showing albums with the smallest thumbnail. When you are browsing the folders in your music directories you are presented with larger thumbnails. When you are playing music and showing the "Now playing" page, you are presented with the full-size ( or largest thumbnail ).
