SOLVED - Folder.jpg Question

Hello Everyone,
I am running Subsonic on W2k3. I normally store a picture of the album cover as Folder.jpg for Subsonic to use as a zoom image but have found that Windows loves to change this file. I was wondering if there is another naming convention or extension that Subsonic will pick up and use?
Example; AlbumArt.jpg or Folder.png.
Thank you
Johnathan

The Folder.jpg gets shrunk than changed to a system file as hidden. It may be because I am using the Windows Home Server variant of W2k3 that includes Windows Media Player.

A while back, I checked the settings and turned off any updating of music information from within WMP (I just verified that the settings are still off). I have also discontinued the use of WMP on the server itself but I continue to use WMP on my Windows clients. Maybe it is the WMP on my Client machines (The update option is off on the clients as well)?
Also, if there is an alternate naming convention that Subsonic will pick up and use I am still interested.
P.S.
I have even removed the Music library from WMP on the server and client machines.

As for remote clients I give them subsonic but I have several local clients that use anything from iTunes to Winamp. I will have to do more research as I believe it to be WMP causing the issue. I just was hoping that there was an alternate naming convection that Subsonic will pick up. It would be so easy to run a BAT and change them at once.

Why don't you get your local clients to use subsonic as well? i make every one use subsonic as its so much better as you only have to update one system.
but thats just me.
as for your problem its defo wmp doing it, but then i no itunes can play about with your mp3s and artwork if u let it.

Understood, I will research how to get WMP to stop playing with my files. I don't use Subsonic locally, I use a combination of players/editors depending on what I am doing, I.E. Streaming to extenders, Streaming client to client or changing/modifying my libraries whether it be videos, Photos or audio files.
A good example would be how I stream from my media server to my iPhone. I have not had to much success streaming from Subsonic to the iPhone, so I do this through another set of services running on the same server but using the same library. I figured if it was possable to just rename my cover art to a naming convetion that subsonic was able to pick up on I would be able to make this happen with minimal impact on how I currently maintain my libraries
Thanks for the info though.

You can configure it to your liking in Settings > General > Cover art mask.
By default, it's set to "folder.jpg cover.jpg .jpg .jpeg .gif .png", but you can change this to whatever you prefer.

What is the syntax for the cover art mask? I would like to add pictures with the word 'front' in the filename. Simply front or *front* doesn't seem to work.

I'm no programmer but I think that this snippet says that the mask is essentially *mask. To match, the image must end with one of the entries in the cover art mask field.
- Code: Select all
if (candidate.getName().toUpperCase().endsWith(mask.toUpperCase())))
Unfortunately, if I'm right, then there is no way (without changing the code) to do what you (and I) want.
If someone were to change the "endsWith" part of that line to "contains" then it would probably work the way you want.
