I would like to be able to remove the user ID and password requirement when users hit my site.

I will be using this app on the outside and dont want user ID's and passwords, is this possible?

Sure thing - if you don't mind a slightly longer URL. Get your users to bookmark it, post the link somewhere on your website or do some sort of redirect (HTML, domain etc).

What you need to do is create some generic user, say "Guest" and give that user a password like "Guest". Feeling very creative right now.. ;)

Now, your URL should then read something along the lines of: http: //www.your_domain.com:port_if_specified/login.view?user=Guest&password=Guest

/D

and one step further please...

thanks deriksen for clearing this up.
great stuff!

but now:
how can I paste a link into the browser that takes a user directly to a playlist or file?

or to put it differently - what would the stream URL be -

if I had a playlist called "thebeatles.pls" placed in my default playlist folder?

I tried:

http://xx.xxx.xx.xxx:8080/login.view?us ... eatles.pls

but this obviously doesn't work.

really appreciate your help with this one.

Thanks!

Take a little look at the API http://subsonic.sourceforge.net/api.php

See if that helps you.

further help needed...

thanks - that already helped a lot!

I managed to do the pinging - but only because it needs no extra parameters

http://xx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxx/rest/ping.vi ... c=subsonic

but I'm still having problems with the id
Parameter required per default for streaming a file.

the manual says: A string which uniquely identifies the file to stream. Obtained by calls to getMusicDirectory.

but how do I create the correct string to this file?

must the path be absolute?

http://website:port/rest/stream.view?u= ... r/file.mp3

http://website:port/rest/stream.view?u= ... d=file.mp3

did not work either. I tried to open this in browsers and itunes. (open stream URL)

did not work unfortunately.

thanks again!

oh !

I think I didn't ask this question in the right way and what I meant was actually the issue answered by Brian here.

http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtop ... +streaming

however if anyone can tell me other options to do "real webradio-like streaming" of a stream created via subsonic - this would be very nice!

I think I'll try what Brian suggested first. Thanks Brian!
