Hey everyone,

I noticed that for some reason FLAC playlists are not being worked through correctly anymore (at least in the latest 50 or so builds). I am not sure what is causing this, the player simply stops. This is using transcode commands to MP3. I would love to include a LOG, but there is nothing being logged as the next file in line is not even touched. :/ This problem does not affect Jukeboxing a transcoded FLAC, while the issue remains with Jukeboxing pcm streams, as discussed here:

But now I can't even stream transcoded FLAC files anymore. :/ Is anyone having the same issue? (I am using Win7 w/ Tomcat)

MP3 albums do not show this behavior, they stream as listed in the playlist.

Sindre, I don't want to be a pest with this, but this problem for some reason got bigger. Or am I doing something wrong here?

Okay, nobody is experiencing this or maybe noone is transcoding FLACs to MP3 to be listened to via Webplayer - either way, this problem still persists.

This one plays after having updated to the latest FLASH player, yet the NEXT SONG IN LINE is not being played. The player bar is not moving forward, it's stuck at the last second of the first track played. Could anyone tell me why this is happening? I'd really appreciate it.

I just had this tested remotely as well, same problem. Basically, this makes subsonic useless to me, so maybe someone can help out and either say YES THIS IS A BUG or DUDE, YOU'RE DOING SOMETHING WRONG.

No pcm jukeboxing and no stream of whole playlists, I can't believe I'm the only one out there with these issues... .

I hope to fix this (in particular lossless jukeboxing) "soon". BTW, which Subsonic version are you using?

I was using a prebeta for quite some time, and last night updated to the current beta (build 1064) - but that did not change the situation regarding FLAC>WAV or FLAC>MP3 streaming.

I did think there was a time when FLAC streaming (i.e. working through a playlist) worked fine, but ever since the last 150 builds or so I was getting complaints from users and this has been a problem ever since.

It would be great to have the jukebox fixed as well, and I would assume that could take care of the streaming problem as well: restarting the player after every track.

I also have all my music stored as FLAC files. They are pretty large, as you might expect (10-14 MB is common). My browser response is very sluggish, especially compared to one of my associates who is working directly with .mp3's. I look in my log and see entries like this:

It looks like something is going on but when I look at the music playing in my browser, the files all have a file type listed as FLAC. Also, when I look at the files on my Android Phone (I have that app too), the files seem to have .flac extensions. The files for transcoding seem to be in the right place on my server. Is this working? Could this be the cause of my sluggish performance? Thanks.

yes, that seems to be working to me, it's starting the transcode process and encodes to 128kbit/sec. Your browser response probably has other reasons, such as artwork-size, folder structure etc. Once flac-to-wav works flawlessly you'll actually have LESS cpu-requirements than playing an MP3... .

Thanks for the supportive reply. If I hear you correctly, I think you are suggesting switching from a FLAC to mp3 transcode to a FLAC to WAV transcode. I think that's pretty easy to do.

As for the folder structure, my Music library is structure as follows:

MyMusic --> Artist Name folder --> Album Folder---> individual tracks

It is on a NAS drive on my network. I was going to run a test this weekend copying a few GB of data from the NAS onto my server directly then switch the SubSonic Server to access the folder on the local drive. I was also going to try a similar test where I first rip a bunch of my FLAC's to MP3's and then put then on my server hard drive to see if this changes anything. I am thinking my network drive may be the issue or my large FLAC file sizes. I have an associate here at work with 5x the tracks in his library than I have in mine but his are all .mp3's. His server is a much weaker machine than mine but his web interface pops on the remote clients.

Not that easy, unfortunately - it's a function for the jukebox and Sindre is working on it - the current Java player is a buggy one, so we're waiting for a workaround until it really works.

The structure you mentioned should be good. FLAC file size should not really play a role, as those files are not actually opened when just browsing. Your speed issues seem more likely to be due to a) your NAS and/or b) your network connection/uplink. But the tests you had in mind sound sensible. Would be interested to hear how it went.

Here's an update:

I moved about 20% of my library onto my local hard drive (about a 1000 tracks) in the FLAC format used for storage on my NAS. The initial indication from my internal test and test on my Droid is that performance has improved radically. I am waiting for feedback from a couple of my friends to confirm. If this prove to be correct, then I will move my library to a new internal or eSATA drive on my server PC. That should do it. Will keep you all posted...
