increasing memory limit

When I try to increase the memory limit in the "Control Panel" I get "Failed to write, Access denied". any reason for this? It will not allow default settings to be modified.

I helped a friend with this on Vista. I don't use Windows so this is by memory.

I assume that you by "Control Panel" mean the options available in the Subsonic system tray.

Right click on the file (the error message contains the file name). I think it is located in c:\program files\subsonic\filename.
Then choose "Properties" and then the "Security" tab and grant all rights to the ordinary user (at least read/write, I don't remember )

Retry.

That solved it for my friend.

Poffa's solution, while it works just fine, would technically be a workaround I'd say. It's sub-optimal from a security standpoint because you're giving non-admins full rights to an item in Program Files. What you should do instead is run the Subsonic tray-app as administrator (right-click, Run as administrator). It will then be able to write settings and control the Subsonic service without issue.
