Android Connection Problems

We have our server running on port 8180 (with a redirect from port 80) and I can't seem to connect with the Android app.

If I launch the Android subsonic app, and put in the address with and without the port, the "test conection" button returns "Connection failure. Resource not found".
(For server I am putting http://x.x.x.x:8180 or http://x.x.x.x, where x.x.x.x is the IP)

I also tried connecting with the built in browser and it gives me "web page not available" - even though I seem to be able to ping the address (from the free PING application).

The phone is a Motorola Cliq running Android 1.5.

Have you tried to temporary use the standard port 80 to verify that it is working with the Android app.?

Maybe some ports is blocked by your ISP.

Well, the site is not exposed through the internet. I was trying to connect to an instance that is used internally to our network. I was connecting my phone via WiFi to the network and expecting it to see the local resources (which are behind a firewall to the internet). It doesn't seem like the app can see the local resources (yet I can ping both directions).
