I just attempted installing Subsonic 3.8 stand alone. I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 server edition, tomcat6

I followed the instructions on the tutorial here
http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1486
And it is not working for me. When I tell it to start subsonic from the command line, it says it starts.
Code: Select all
Started Subsonic [PID 28581, /var/subsonic/subsonic_sh.log]

I've also tried other tutorials and nothing seems to get it to work.

Tomcat appears to work as when I go to the computer in a webbrowser,
http://192.168.1.120:8080
it gives the tomcat greeting.

When I try going to the subsonic directory,
http://192.168.1.120:8080/subsonic
I get a 404 error

The contents of my /var/subsonic/standalone directory are as follows:

I changed the security to no on the configuration file

What am I missing? It seems that there is content there, but I am not pointing it to the right directory. Not sure what to do next.

Thanks for any help

Well, since no one seems to have an answer, let me ask some other questions so I can have a better understanding of this program. Maybe I can still figure it out.

There are a number of tutorials out there. The one from this site does not mention installing tomcat, others do. What is the difference between the WAR version and the stand alone version? If I do the stand alone version, do I need to have tomcat running?

I've run through the steps of installing it both ways, and it still won't come up in the web browser. The one that I downloaded is the stand alone version.

Where exactly does this program reside? When I point it towards the URL for my local machine, is there supposed to be something in the Apache Document Root area?

I'm assuming since this is within the LAN, I don't have to do any port forwarding?

Thanks for any help

Jason

Hi

I had the same problem. I'm running 3.8 on Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 for testing. According to this thread:

http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2340

the Tomcat6 security manager needs turned off. This worked for me as a work around. You can edit /etc/init.d/tomcat6 to turn off the security manager.

Thanks

I already had security turned off.

I deleted everything and went back to trying just installing using the war version.

The installation tutorial on the Subsonic website did not work for me. Don't know if it needs to be updated or what, but I had to use pieces of another tutorial on ubuntu forums. I also had to change the ownership of /var/subsonic to tomcat6:tomcat6

Now it comes up. It looks like a very promising program. Excited about using it.

Thanks for making it!
