Hi - this desktop I have subsonic running on is fairly loud, so I'd like to transition to an Atom-based machine, fanless. I'm wondering if anyone has experience (both with Atom 230 and 330). I'm sure it will run windows fine, but I'm just concerned with whether it can transcode from FLAC, etc into lower bitrate music (128kbps) in realtime quick enough to stream it. Usually it's either limiting bitrate to 128kbps or I stream at no limit, depending on where I am. Don't really know of a way I can "try" it around here, so I wanted to ask you guys.

Thanks,
- Eli

Hey Eli,

I'm running it on a 330 Atom system and the transcodes work just fine - I will stress test it later with the new beta, but I am quite sure I never had issues with multiple streams at once from FLAC to MP3.

Sounds great, thanks for letting me know. I actually just need one stream for myself, and more often it's transcoding from high bitrate MP3 or m4a to a lower bitrate MP3, so I guess it sounds like it'll do just fine.

And, there's a new beta out? Or out soon? :)

Hey Eli,

I'm also running Subsonic on a 330 Atom system and i've never had any problems with the transcoding. Not even, when there are 12 People streaming from it.
But if you really want to use the 330 Atom, then buy the Asrock A330GC Mainboard. There you can overclock the Atom to 2,1Ghz without Temperature problemes. (The 2,1 Ghz OC is available in the BIOS)
The Atom can also handle my Music-Collection of ~1TB.
After all, the Atom is perfect for Subsonic.
