Hello Board,

I'm new to Subsonic, and really liking it so far. One stumbling block for me is not being able to browse by genre, etc. as is a common functionality with other music library managers.

A thought I had was to write some scripts that would build out a directory tree of symlinks for this purpose. e.g. At the toplevel have a "Genres" tree that contains folder for different genres, and then symlinks within those to actual albums, etc.

How would this interact with the search indexing? Lots of redundant work and duplication?

I have never tested how subsonic responds to symbolic links, but why don't you give it a shot and tell us? What OS are you running? An alternative way to do this would probably be using a FUSE file system on linux that basically mirrors directories based on tags, although that might end up being a tad more work to implement... .
