Why does my internal computer ip address keep changing?

Why does the intenal ip address of my computer keep changing? It changes from 192.168.2 to 192.168.3 to 192.168.4, etc...

This is causing me to have to login into my router and change the IP in my port forwarding settings constantly.

In ipconfig it is listed as the IPv4 address. This is the one that keeps changing.

Any ideas what I can do?

Thanks,

Newbie

Hey Newbie/ck100,

2 ways:

1) if you router has the ability to assign IPs according to MAC IDs, then you can set it up that way (making 192.168.0.2 your IP for this particular MAC ID etc.)

2) set up a static IP in your IPv4 settings:

Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections

Right click on your Local Area Connection symbol (the active one) --> Properties --> Click "Internet Protocol 4" and hit PROPERTIES. Set it from AUTO to "Use the following IP":

192 168 1 x (whatever you want it to be)

255 255 255 0

DNS should be 192 168 1 1 the base IP (twice for both fields)

Hope this helps.

ff

I was able to use the router setting to set the IP for the computer's MAC address. Thanks for your help!
