How do I install Subsonic on my web site?

I want to have a page of my website dedicated to my personal songs.

Is there a way of installing Subsonic into my website so that people can go to that page, pick the songs they want to hear, and then play them?

Then, can they then download the selected songs from that page?

Thanks

See this post for starters. However, I am running into an issue doing it.

While it is an interesting application, it's really not the design of Subsonic. There are tools better suited for this type of implementation; A few that come to mind are:

- http://www.streampad.com/
- http://www.wimpyplayer.com/
- etc...

Good luck, and be sure to post your results if you choose to continue...

The two items you listed may be better suited to a website for one or two songs/playlist, but for an entire library? I find the ability to link an entire library to my website via an app like Subsonic to be a better approach to both share and enjoy my tunes.

Now if only I could get some guidance on why within an Iframe, I cannot update my playlist frame. Perhaps this is the reason why it's not the right approach because it can't be done or it's not simple enough for one of my limited experience.

I'm looking to do this as well. I have unlimited web-space on a hosted server and would like to implement Subsonic on there for a few reasons: 1) my home bandwidth is rather limited, and 2) my computer isn't in the best of shape. Any tips on how this could be done would be greatly appreciated.

Running Subsonic through a web server

I'm running Subsonic proxied through lighttpd on Debian, using SSL for outside connections while keeping LAN traffic unencrypted. All you need is some version of mod_proxy for your webserver. Once you've configured your webserver to proxy all connections to a given url and deeper (say /music) to wherever you run Subsonic you need to configure Subsonic to make it aware of the url prefix. You do this by editing subsonic.sh (assuming you run some Unix). Change the SUBSONIC_CONTEXT_PATH to the same prefix you use to configure mod_proxy:

Code: Select all
SUBSONIC_CONTEXT_PATH=/music

This way all connections to http(s)://your.webserver/music/... are proxied to Subsonic. Subsonic knows about the prefix so it relocates its views to http://your.subsonic:port/music/... .
