Using subsonic on android

Postby sk8russ » Sun Apr 04, 2010 6:53 pm

I don't have a problem connecting to my server from my phone and listening to my music when I am at home on wifi but when I attempt this over 3g I get the message:a network error occurred retrying...

Why is this happening?

What do your connection settings look like on the Server config page on the phone?

It looks like this:192.168.0.101:8080

And I've entered my user name and password...

There's your problem. That address can only be accessed while on your home network (any 192.168.x.x address or 10.0.x.x address for that matter). You need to either get a subsonic address or an address from dyndns.org and set up your router to forward connections on port 8080 to the subsonic server.

For the time being, you might have luck going to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ and connecting to the ip address with the ":8080" addition. Odds are that you'll still need to figure out how to set up port forwarding on your router.

Thank you

I had no idea about that.i will give it a try when I get home tonight.

In regards to the port forwarding, I selected the option on the subsonic admin page that said something about doing it automatically with upnp...does that make sense? [/u]

more problems...

Postby sk8russ » Wed Apr 07, 2010 5:36 am

So here is my current situation.

I went to dyndns.com and created a host name but typing that into my browser produces the problem loading page error. Like I said I have checked the option on the subsonic admin page "Automatically configure your router to allow incoming connections to Subsonic (UPnP port forwarding)"

any ideas?

Clarification

Postby sk8russ » Wed Apr 07, 2010 3:29 pm

I'm fairly confident my issue its a simple one. I think it's just a matter of figuring out what numbers go where. Is there a way to attach screen shots to these posts so you could see where my confusion stems from and suggest what steps to take to get this working?

I am having a similar problem. I set up the subsonic software on my Windows PC and the App on my Android. As long as I am home I can connect to my wifi network and my music streams flawlessly. However, when I try to use the 3G network I get the same "Network error" message thta sk8russ is getting.

I can connect to the demo server fine, but when I try to connect to my own server I get the error. The server address I have in the phone is

http://(mylogin).subsonic.org

mylogin is the name I created when I set up the software on my pc.

With regard to the comment below about how some things might not work if you haven't donated, I'm not clear on that. I haven't donated yet because I wanted to make sure that the program was going to work for my needs first. If it does I certainly will donated. But I thought that was what the 30 day trial period was about.

same here with the donation situation. It would be well worth the donation if this works the way I want it to, but so far I'm not having any luck.

Your router may not support UPnP. I certainly wouldn't rely on that. You'll probably need to go into the router's setup (on mine I just point my web browser to 192.168.1.1) and edit your port forwarding. You'll probably also need to set up your computer to use a static IP address, rather than DHCP. You should be able to find out how to do all this for your specific router and OS with a few google searches. You want to route all incoming (to the router from the internet) connection requests for port 8080 to your computer's static IP address.

Hi! I had the exact same problem as described above, being able to stream the music over home wifi but once I get out into 3g it gives me the error message. The way I fixed it was to change the port that Subsonic was using from 80 to 8080. This can be edited in settings on the localhost page, and then check once you hit "save" for it to autoconfigure your router and check your server name that your router has properly opened a port. Hope this helps! What an incredible piece of software here. I happily donated once I got it up and running on my HTC Incredible.

I am also having the exact same problem. As for changing the ports using the local host page / settings. I am having trouble finding where you can actually change that. Can anyone help me out here? Thanks.
