Connection Timeout

Postby kid.wonderbread » Wed Apr 07, 2010 12:09 am

I keep getting this error when I test my web address. I get xxxxx.subsonic.org is registered, but could not connect to it. (ConnectTimeoutException) . I am on Win 7 32 bit. I tried forwarding the ports on my linksys router. I disabled my Norton's firewall. Have a friend who is trying to connect from his network and can't. Any ideas?

Forgot to mention I did donate and have registered.

Could you please tell me the following:

1. Which port is Subsonic running on?
2. What is your port forwarding set to in Settings > Network (in Subsonic)
3. When you configured your Linksys router, which public and private ports did you specify?

Thanks,

I set the port in the subsonic control panel to 8080. This is also the port I set in the settings>network in subsonic. I have it checked to port forward using upnp. I get the message that port 8080 is forwarded to public port 80. I have port 8080 forwarded on the router. I also forwarded port 4040.

Ok, so one problem is that the hosting company (godaddy.com) which hosts the subsonic.org server doesn't allow outgoing connections to port 8080. This means that the "Test" link in Settings > Network doesn't work if you use port 8080 (even if the xxx.subsonic.org address will redirect properly).

If you still have problems, or are confused by all the different ports, I recommend using the same port for all settings, for instance port 80 or 4040. Use it both as the private and public port.

Hope this helps,

I changed the port from 8080 and set everything to the same port and everything seems to be working. Thanks for your help!

xxx.subsonic.org is registered, but could not connect to it

Postby hbjastad » Thu Apr 15, 2010 7:45 pm

I have just installed subsonic, and configured it to use port 4040 everywhere. I have tested that connecting from the outside directly to my IP address works, e.g. http://abc.def.ghi.jkl:4040

I have also donated, and am now trying to configure my xxx.subsonic.org - which is where the problem happen. When I try to test the connection, it says "Status: xxx.subsonic.org is registered, but could not connect to it. (ConnectTimeoutException)". I can ping xxx.subsonic.org, but it pings a different IP address than mine (maybe that is ok?). When I try to connect to http:///xxx.subsonic.org from the outside, I get connection refused.

Any ideas what might be wrong?
