Help recovering admin password

Postby bianini » Wed Apr 14, 2010 11:38 am

Hello,

I've installed subsonic a while ago. I have build 3.6 installed using Apache version.

I've created both a login for me and my wife but without admin privileges. Since all this time past I forgot the admin login and password. Is there a way to recover it without having to reinstall it?

Thanks in advance

If you are on Linux, have a look in
/var/subsonic/db/subsonic.script
(no idea where this file is on Windows). In this (text) file you'll find a line like
INSERT INTO USER VALUES('admin','enc:6162636465',7092064514,0,0,FALSE)
The password is the string after "enc:" in hexadecimal. So grab an ASCII table and decode :) In this example it's "abcde".

Thank you very much!!

In Windows the folder is similar

C:\subsonic\db\subsonic.script

I've found the line and decode it with an Hex/Ascii converter:

Hello to all who posted here.

Special compliments to those who contributed decisively to the solution: rob42 and bianini who took the time to add up a web address to simplify the conversion of the hex code.

I have a cloudy memory and forgot to annotate in a safe place the key to the admin account. Followed the directions and got it!

Thanks again and cheers!

OK, I'm having trouble retrieving/resetting my password.....for some reason, I'm putting in what I think is the right password on the login page, but it won't take. UPDATE: Now I can't even get to the localhost page, Firefox says it can't find the page. What's going on? I'm trying to run Subsonic on Windows 7.

Hi,

Password are not encrypted in the database, it is a big security issue
Is there a way to have it securely stored ?

I have my hard drive encrypted. So the stored passwords are not accessible.

Windows and Mac have free solutions. I use Very Crypt because i don't trust Mac and Windows.

The default admin password is admin. What I did is uninstall Subsonic, deleted the c:\Subsonic folder, reinstalled Subsonic and then the admin password was reset to "admin"
