Connection Issue

I have an iPhone and have bought both the app and donated for the full account.

This program worked for about 2 minutes when I first tried it, and hasn't been able to connect since.

Currently, when I "Test" my address on the Networks Settings page, it says that my address "is registered, but could not connect to it (HttpHostConnectException).

Any help?

Have you tired using http://www.whatsmyip.org/ to get your external IP and then get someone else to see if they can connect from outside with the IP and the port

for example they would use http://95.135.17.22:4040 if your IP was 95.135.17.22

Depending on how things are set up on your router that should test your incoming connection.
If they see the username and password page then it worked.
If not then you have to sort out your routers port forwarding. I suggest doing it manually but some prefer the UPnP method. You need to map the external port 4040 to the internal IP address of your PC and also at port 4040.

If your having trouble with the subsonic.org DNS setup you could try using a DynDNS account. They are free but you have to remember to put the ":4040" at the end of the URL and you have to find a way to update the IP address if your using a dynamic IP.
The subsonic.org method will work in most situations though.

Of course if your SIP has given you a static IP then you can just use the IP and port number like above and forget about all the DNS or subsonic naming.

Hope that helps some.

Also should mention that if you're on Windows, the default port is probably 80 not 4040 and sometimes that can cause problems if you ISP blocks that port by default as some do (we should really make 4040 the default port for all systems...)

And fr3d's suggestion of trying your IP directly is a good one. First make sure your external access is working, then see if the subsonic.org address is working. Most likely, it's that your port forwarding is incorrectly setup in some way. The automatic setup with UPnP is easy, but doesn't always work.

We're working on greatly revamping Subsonic's documentation to cover all of these types of troubleshooting as I've noticed in helping many people that it seems to boil down to a similar set of troubleshooting steps each time.

I am having similar problems my router works for VNC over 3G and is auto UPnP checked. I can get Subsonic to work over my home network but not over 3G or anyone else's network! I have donated and am very frustrated, is it my Android phone perhaps?

This might be interesting to add to that trouble shooting document.
There are situations where a user has a "pass through" modem of some sort. This means that the IP address on the PC is the public IP address. Every PC attached to that "pass through" modem will have a unique and public IP address.
(Not recommended in my view as its good to have a hardware firewall of some sort especially for windows users)
This can be verified by going to http://www.whatsmyip.org/
and comparing the address with the results of the commands
ipconfig ( Windows)
ifconfig (Lnux)
Sorry I dont know the Mac one.

Just a thought to add.
