Supposed to play m4a natively?

I upgraded to the beta. I disabled the m4a>mp3 conversion (I am having a separate issue with it that it ends up playing the song super slow and low) in hopes it would solve my transcoding issue - but nay.
It's goofy - I'm streaming this to my Droid via the app. It starts to play the song (with the *right* tempo and pitch, mind you) but it will stop after a few seconds then restart the song. It throws up an error in the notification window saying it couldn't play. It does this over and over, and every time the song restarts it plays a little further into the song.
Ideas anyone? It really is terrible since most of my collection (back in my Itunes days) are m4as.
Thanks

Wait...it plays after the song is entirely downloaded. Does playing it without transcoding make the stream huge and it can't keep up over 3G?

PPS...it also no longer plays via SubAIR.

There is a bug in 4.0.beta1 causing the song duration not to be sent to the Flash/Android/SubAir player.
I have later fixed this bug, and I'll check if it works better now.
Thanks,
Sindre

Strange, I'm testing now with the same version as you, and both the Flash player, SubAir and Android works (although Flash and SubAir doesn't show progress).
Can you please double-check that aac>mp3 and m4a>mp3 transcodings are disabled in Settings > Network?
Also, if you have the possibility to email me one of your offending m4a files, I could try to reproduce the problem.
Cheers
Sindre

Sindre,
I think you meant Settings -> Transcoding.
I just double checked, I have unchecked the both from Default and Enabled.
SubAir is v 0.024
Android app is v 1.2
*Update* Just sent you a sample song to your contact email address from the main Subsonic page.

Hm - if it makes a difference - when I right click the song (Back in Black, for instance) in SubAIR and download it, it downloads as an mp3 (though its an m4a). Then when I try to play it after downloading WMP reports it cannot be played as the format is different from the file extension.

Just curious if m4a/aac playback is dependent on the Flash player that is part of Subsonic, or the browser the user is using?

More news about the droid app: it is half related to streaming/downloading progress. For instance, the song will play much longer if I let it cache a bit first. But then I did a test and playback konked out about mid song when I had 5.8 of 6 MB loaded already.
So its better if I wait a long time....but still not quite right. Also Subair is still shot. Maybe for fun I will un install Sub on my droid and re install. It had stuck with me through a lot of ROM flashes. Maybe something got messed up along the way.

Thanks for emailing me the sample. Weird thing is, it works just fine on my server (Subsonic 4.0.beta1 on Windows 7). Both with Android, SubAir and the Flash player.
Yeah, I meant Settings > Transcoding, sorry...

Really? I am running Subsonic off of my Windows Home Server. Perhaps I will try running it off my Win 7 desktop and see if that works. Sad news would be I definitely need it running off my WHS
Then again I could grab the Win 7 based beta of "vail" for WHS if I had to.

What Flash version are you running? Right-click on the player and select "About Adobe Flash Player". I'm running version 10.0.42.34.
Thanks,
Sindre

I garauntee flash isn't the latest version because this is on my work PC. I will try to get my hands on a vanilla build pc so I can try the latest version. Tonight I will try the following tests:
1. Access Subsonic on WHS via SubAir on a pc with latest flash
2. Run Subsonic service on a Win7 desktop as the server and try accessing via Android.

Tried streaming to SubAIR on a PC with Win 7 and the latest flash. No good.
Haven't gotten to the test of running the Subsonic service on a Win 7 PC though.

If possible, could someone having problems with m4a playback create a temporary test account for me on their Subsonic server so I can try to reproduce the error?
Thanks a lot in advance!
