Hey there,

I was curious if there's a way to get HTML5 to function as the player, so that the iPad can run the browser? Is there a third party mod to enable this?

There are iphone apps that interact w/Subsonic. Check them out on the frontpage somewhere. That should work with the ipad.

in HTML5

Ok I have the same question and that didn't get answered, anyone think they can do this in HTML5 so there is no need for the flash player?

if there is a Developer out there that would like to try this let me know.

Yep, my frontend here does it: http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3747

It's not ready yet but should be released soon. It autodetects HTML5 Audio and then fails back to Flash (to be honest I can't claim the credit for that the soundmanager 2 library it uses does that for me)

I should add, that I haven't tested it on the ipad since I don't own one. If someone buys me one I'll happily test it and get it working :D

Very cool front end and that fact it can do HTML5 with flash fallback even cooler.

I'd like to test it out, I have a iPad to test with as well as a Touch and iPhone.

Do you plan to release the front end you have built?

J.

Yep I plan to release it in the next few weeks. I'm road testing it every day and tweaking it. It's almost in a decent state to be used by others. I'll update the thread once it's ready

So here's an initial drop of the code at the googlecode project: http://code.google.com/p/subtunes/

I haven't figured out an easy way to get it hooked into the windows installer, but if you're running with Apache on linux then it should be easy to follow the instructions to get it up and running. There are a few known issues but feel free to file suggestions and bugs on the site and I'll do my best to keep on top of them.

At the moment Chrome and Firefox are known to work. I've not tested with other browsers. I'd be interested to hear if people find bugs or confirm if it works out of the box.

To be honest I don't expect it to work on an ipad as touch events don't map to mouse click events. I'll see if I can make an ipad friendly version in the future.

Matt

As an iPad owner (who is currently typing this post on an iPad while streaming Subsonic with iSub) I would be thrilled to see an iPad specific application for Subsonic. :D

The UI of iSub is somewhat limited because it's designed for the iPhone.

But I don't anticipate one will be created anytime soon unless the web interface can be adapted to use HTML5. Even Facebook hasn't released a dedicated iPad app to date...

Cheers,
Kirk

As promised here's an initial cut of an ipad compatible frontend: http://code.google.com/p/subtunes/downloads/detail?name=subtunes-0.9.zip

It is in a very beta state, so there are many bugs, but feel free to give it a try and give any feedback

This is awesome thanks Matt + Josh!

Any plans to make an iphone compatible web-gui (not an app)?

Thanks for your hard work
