I don't know if this is the exact cause for your issue, but I can definitely report that I've had issues with my company's firewall interfering with Subsonic playback. The entire site worked fine EXCEPT for when I tried to play something with the Flash player -- my co's firewall apparently sniffs TCP/IP packets and filters out anything with streaming-media-related headers. This was a recent development as of late last year.
My solution involved migrating tomcat6 over to https/443 -- with this setup, everything, including those streaming media headers, is encrypted, so the company has no clue what they are (probably looks like some online banking session to them). Subsonic now works perfectly from the office over HTTPS.
Actually, to be more accurate, I have my router forwarding all 443 packets to my house over to my main server on port 4443 (which is the default port for tomcat6 SSL). But the effect is the same.
I'm not sure what the solution would be if you were running this on Windows, or via the standalone Jetty engine...
Hope this helps, and cheers,
