WMA not transcoding so Convert !!

OK,
Transcoding of wma files to mp3 seems to be a bit of a problem for many people.
I managed to get it transcoding (file format is changed at least) with info from this forum but it still wont play so something it still wrong!!
Any idea what it is that might be causing this problem?

Is there another format to transcode into from wma that will work on most web browser players?

And failing all that is there a recommended or suggested wma to mp3 converter tool?
I'm using Linux Mint 9 (Ubuntu Lucid) as the server so something not windows only. I don't mind the conversion taking time but I would like to not loose too much quality in converting.

Anyway I'll keep this thread posted with how I get on with conversion tools I try but any suggestions would be appreciated.

You could try switch, http://www.nch.com.au/switch/ I haven't tested it myself but I found some recomendations on some other forum.

I have no idea if it supports DRM, but I guess you'll figure that out pretty fast.

I have given up on transcoding wma.

So far I have settled to using XFCA on Ubuntu to do the recoding to mp3
It uses the newer Lame VBR and lets you set presets amongst other things.
Then Tag&Remove to do the Tag rework. Wish there was a Tag&Rename equivalent for Linux because it is really good.

I have to run it in on XP on VirtualBox. This is not ideal for many reasons especially as there is a chance that manipulating files on a Linux box with windows can cause problems. I have not noticed it yet in the few years of Linux and windoz combined use, but apparently it can!

I got the tips from going over some of the Ubernet standards.
A good resource for anyone interested in keeping a music library in order.

That standard though old, will still create some of the best results for size and quality with mp3s.
