Setting up a remote jukebox using Android

Hello,

I'm currently fiddling with Subsonic settings. Awesome software, everything I expected seems to be there - even Last.fm scrobbling.

My set up consists of :
- My home PC, sharing the music thanks to the SubSonic DEB. OS : Ubuntu 10.04
- My phone, running Android 2.1 and the Subsonic app.
- Myself, with a limited account as miles to use with my phone.

Connecting from my phone shows a nifty miles@android user in the web user panel.

I've seen, using the admin account on my PC, that it is possible for Subsonic to play music directly on my audio device. Seems a great opportunity to set up a remotely controlled Jukebox : music on the PC output, interface on the Android device.

I've tried setting up a new user, jukebox, for this. This user is « allowed to play files in jukebox mode », per the Users tab.

I logged in on my Android Phone with this user (created a secondary set of settings in the servers list), and attempted to log in to my home server. It worked, but did not create another Player in the Players Tab as I thought it would (expected : jukebox@android user showing up).

Instead, another miles@android showed up when logged with the jukebox account from the phone.

I cloned miles@android's Player, named it Jukebox and set it in jukebox mode. On my Android device, I… Oh, wait… can't select the player I want to use ? Damn.

So I'm kinda stuck there. How can I set this thing up ? I'd like to have both users miles and jukebox available from the phone, one to listen to my music on the go, the user to play directly on the PC's output.

I'm not expert, that's for sure, but from what I can tell, this isn't possible yet. Somebody on another thread claimed to be designing this, but I haven't heard from them in a while.

Somebody else said you can use the web browser to do jukebox mode, but I haven't been able to get it to work on my DroidX yet at all.

Please let us know if you figure anything out!

Exactly the question I was going to ask, the jukebox feature on the android app would kick ass !

I tried using the navigator on the phone, which worked as a jukebox, but was really boring zooming/dezooming every second.

Still, Subsonic > all

*bump*

I've been using SS for a couple of months on my Android phone and it works great.

However, from what I gather in these forums it seems that Jukebox mode either isn't fully implemented or is broken for Android users? I've tried to give my Android user permission to use Jukebox mode in SS but can't see any option to use that mode from my phone and no sound comes out of the server's soundcard. Music still gets streamed to the phone regardless.

Could someone confirm that a) Jukebox doesn't work from Android handsets at the moment so I can stop tearing my hair out and b) that this is being worked on? (hopefully)

I'll gladly donate again once Jukebox works. All I'd need is a 'Use Jukebox' checkbox in the SS settings which routes the audio to the server's soundcard rather than stream to the phone. Sounds easy.......

What a shame! I too am dying to see this implemented. FWIW, I believe GMote in the Android Market does approximately this, though of course it would be nicer to support Subsonic and have a one-stop shop. That would be a difficult swap of user interface on the Android mobile app, though, so I'm not holding my breath to see it implemented. If Sindre ever does have time, though, I'd donate again for sure!

Android Jukebox Control

Subsonic is running on a Win 7 basic Netbook connected to a multichannel amp running to 4 sets of volume controls and speakers throughout my home.

I log into subsonic from my Droid 1 using the standard browser.

Select Jukebox from the player dropdown list.

The music and playlists I select play using the audio out on my netbook into the multi channel amp.

Its a cramped control layout. I'd prefer if it worked using the native android app. But it does work. also have full control from any browser on any device in my home network.
