subAir not playing

Postby epstewart » Sun Jul 04, 2010 7:12 pm

I just installed subAir 0.024 on my Mac OS X 10.5.8 iMac running Subsonic 4.0.1. When I play a song in subAir, nothing happens!

I do see the album art for the song in the subAir window, and the song + album art shows up in the Subsonic web browser Now Playing list. The Subsonic log entry for the first song I played was:

Code: Select all
[2010-07-04 14:51:11,339] INFO PlaylistInputStream - faux listening to "Beethoven_ Sonatas Op. 26, Op. 27 No. 1, Op. 27 No. 2 _Moonlight_ & Op. 49 No. 1/01 Piano Sonata No.12 in a Flat, Op.26_ 1. Andante Con Variazioni.m4a"

But the song does not play, and its progress bar in subAir does not move.

If I try to navigate to a different album and song in subAir, I can do so, but subAir won't let me initiate play.

There are no further relevant entries put in the Subsonic log when I try to play another song from subAir.

When I installed subAir, I was told to quit the application after it launched so that I could download and install a newer version of Adobe AIR, which I did, and then I relaunched subAir.

I can't find where Adobe AIR was put in my directory structure, so I can't check to see how it's configured or what it's doing. Where exactly is Adobe AIR on my Mac?

I've tried using subAir with two different usernames ... no help.

I've used http://localhost:4040/ and http://epstewart.subsonic.org/ as my server address ... no help.

subAir does seem to find all the music in my music library just fine. It just can't play it. Or, rather, it seems to try to initiate play on the first song I play, but then from that point on, nothing.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance ...

I'm the original poster ... I uninstalled Adobe AIR, re-installed it, and re-obtained and re-installed the most recent version of AIR when prompted to do so. I assume I have all the software I need, and it's installed OK.

I now find that only some of my music hangs SubAir up: it seems to be AAC files with .m4a filenames that don't work.

When I play MP3s, they work. But if I play an AAC, typically the album art briefly shows up and the player is about to start playing the song ... then the album art disappears and the player stops responding. I have to quit SubAir and restart it to get things working again.

The AACs that won't play in SubAir do play in the Subsonic web browser interface. None of them are "protected." They are all "purchased" from the iTunes store, or else they are AAC imports from CDs.

I assume SubAir is supposed to work with AACs, so what could be wrong?
