Android client kills my 3G

This is a weird issue I'm having with the Android app. As I noted in another thread, playing mp3s bigger than 192kbps will FC the app, but thats a separate issue.

After playing an album, anywhere from 3-7 songs in, the 3G will "die" and the phone needs to be rebooted to allow network access at any kind of speed. Its quite annoying, as I do work with the phone while the music is playing and the built in music player hogs up a lot of cpu. I end up gingerly downloading mp3s to my phone via subsonic and playing them with the built-in player, but sometimes that borks up the phone connection too.

BTW, I've got a Moto Droid currently running Sapphire 0.8.4 (Froyo) but this also occurred on the stock unrooted 2.1 as well as the leaked Froyo roms i tried: FRF57, FRF83, FRF84B.

Thanks for such an AWESOME application. We use it constantly and am proud to have donated!

To actually help fix this issue you should send logcat output to Sindre so he can debug the application.

The application "Log collector" can do this easily for you in the Android market.

You can also collect log output using the "adb" tool in the Android SDK.

Hi and thanks for the log.

I'm afraid this is beyond me. Can't think of anything in the Subsonic app that could cause this, sorry. It doesn't turn on/off any networks - only uses the network that is currently available.

Sorry,
Sindre

I've had a similar issue with my Moto Droid, however I don't completely lose my network but after a while of streaming mp3s I notice my 3G gets knocked down to 1X speed and will stay as such unless I stop streaming for a bit then restart it. My guess is that Verizon is throttling.

yea, i thought that they may be throttling it too.
This is what happens to me too. most of the time it needs a reboot in my case, but yes sometimes it comes back up after awhile of not streaming and being angered by my lack of tunes.

silly verizon :)

I have similar issues with my Sprint Samsung Moment. In my case it's a known issue with Sprint and Sumsung where if you go from WiFi to 3g it can get stuck in a virtual airplane mode that allows no data until a hard reset. This happens repeatedly if I'm streaming subsonic and try to open my facebook while it's downloading files. Once I restart, it seems to work fine. When connected to Wifi at home, there are no issues for me.

Sindre, I want to thank you again for such an incredible application.
