If you are forwarding a single port, enter that port number into the Base HostPort, Global PortStart and the Global PortEnd boxes. If you are forwarding a range of ports, enter the lowest number of that range into the Base HostPort, Global PortStart box. Then enter the highest number of that range into the Global PortEnd box. ???????

When I saw the subject line of your post, I was like "Why did a question like this go unanswered for weeks?" Then I read your post and now I understand why. Wow, no offense but you made that sound really confusing.
I assume you're asking about your router's configuration page. It provides a ton of boxes for Start and End ports, etc, and you're not sure what to do with them.
If Subsonic is running on port 4040, then you'll want to make all of those options "4040". HostPort, PortStart, PortEnd, etc. They should all be the same.
Port range forwarding is meant to be a convenience... like if you're running an IRC server and you want 6667 through 6675 forwarded, or something. If you're only forwarding one port, then only forward that port. But if you must fill in each box, they should all be the same since you're only forwarding one port.
Cheers,
