Apple Lossless playback

Postby MOOCH » Sat Jul 24, 2010 12:11 am

hey guys, newbie here. I used to use Simplify Media and that was a pretty good program until they pulled the plug, and I have been searching for a good replacement ever since. I Think that I have found it with Subsonic. My only problem is that most of my music collection is in Apple Lossess format which it loks like is not supported by the program right out of the gate. I have searched here and seen other threads on this and have been working on this all day, downloading programs, trying to add transcoding shell codes, and everything else under the sun.

It comes down to the fact that I am just in waaayyy over my head and have no idea what the hell I am doing. I have downloaded ffmpeg but dont know where exactly to put it and what code to use.

I am using an iMac running snow leopard. Any help in getting this to work for me would be greatly appreciated.

- Thanks in advance

I have part of my collection in FLAC which has been great with my android phone, but not with my ipod. It would be nice to have FLAC work on that as well or to have apple lossless work on my phone. Since apple isn't likely to ever support FLAC it seems this would be the most likely alternative.

So I take it nobody has successfully streamed Apple Lossless files through this program? :(

My whole collection is apple lossless, and I stream it just fine.

As for ffmpeg and lame, they need to go in the root Library folder. Open a Finder window, and click on your drive icon.

Go to /Library/Application Support/Subsonic

In there should be a transcode folder. You can put ffmpeg and lame right into there.

Hope that helps.
