ANDROID app - network error on large directories

Have two problems that makes using the product for streaming to my HTC Android Incredible difficult and often impossible:
1) on directories with LARGE number of entries (over 20 or so), frequently get timeout (4 network errors) several times before finally getting a selection list.
note: I have SS on two servers, one running XP, the other VISTA. All updates applied. One is accessed via PUBLIC IP (XP). The other is LOCAL ip over the WIFI. Both behave pretty much the same way. A list of all published music comes up fast. But, if there are over 20 tracks or cuts in the directory, "contacting server" will often timeout several times before success . . . if I get success.
2) can't determine how to use OFFLINE mode (i.e., downloading cuts to queue, then playing in OFFLINE). Always get "downloading error" when trying to play PREVIOUSLY downloaded track in offline mode.
note: I've ask this question several times, directly to Sindre. Never received an answer. Others have echoed the same issue.
