Failed to create thumbnail - getting these a lot lately

Lately I've been getting a lot of errors where subsonic is unable to decode the folder image in jpg format.
I get this in the log:
[2010-08-05 13:53:35,424] WARN CoverArtController - Failed to create thumbnail for /mnt/dlink-mp3/Martina Topley Bird/Quixotic/folder.jpg
java.lang.Exception: Unable to decode image.
Usually this is fixed by opening the image in Irfanview and saving it again. So it seems there are some images who are badly encoded or contain headers that SS cannot parse correctly. I get most of my images from Amazon or from Discogs.
My collection is about 30k songs so even if this is only every 20th album or so its quite noticable in the log and the album listings.
