Simple Questions

Postby Ravialdo » Sat Aug 07, 2010 7:50 pm

I looked under the search function and didnt find obvious answers, so here goes.

I am running Windows 7 on my desktop. I have an Airport Extreme with an old laptop (serving as a media server) attached as a poor man's NAS. This laptop is where all my music is, and the music folders on it are Shared locations. Using the Library feature in W7, this is how I access my music while on the desktop.

1) Can this setup work, or do I need to have Subsonic installed on the attached laptop, as opposed to the desktop?
2) When adding music folders in Subsonic, do I just put in the address such as
\\HPLAPTOP\Music?

I'm also having issues port forwarding. I'm a basic computer guy, and it looks I'm gonna need to self-educate on all this port forward, UnPn, etc. business. I sure hope this is worth it!

1) You can have subsonic installed on the desktop machine
2) You should be able use \\HPLAPTOP\Music as the path in subsonic. I had that same setup under subsonic in the 3.x versions and I can't remember if I could use the UNC path or if I had to map a drive in order to get it to work.

Are you able to connect to subsonic on your windows 7 machine using localhost or your local IP address and port number?

Reply back if you need assistance with port forwarding. Trust me getting subsonic working correctly is well worth the effort :D
