It took me a little while to figure out, but I'd thought share some links and advice for setting Subsonic up to transcode FLAC > MP3 using Mac OSX.

here are links to programs you will need:

1) ffmpegX: http://www.ffmpegx.com/

once opening the .dmg file, control-click on the FFMPEGX icon, choose 'Show Package Contents'. open the Resources folder. Find ffmpeg.

copy ffmpeg to /Library/Application Support/Subsonic/transcode

--

2) lame: http://nuclearpixel.com/blog/view/8/

download the Universal Binary in the middle of the page.
unzip.

copy lame to /Library/Application Support/Subsonic/transcode

--

3) flac: http://sourceforge.net/projects/flac/files/flac-darwin/

download and install package.

open folder /usr/local/bin

copy flac to /Library/Application Support/Subsonic/transcode

--

In Subsonic, go to Settings/Transcoding. For FLAC > MP3,
I use FLAC instead of the default FFMPEG. I couldn't get FFMPEG to work.
It may for you. If you want to use FLAC instead, use this code:

flac --decode --stdout %s

--

hope that helps someone!
cheers, sir demon

This is a good guide, and works for those of you who are using the Subsonic application. If you are using the Standard installation then instead of putting the files listed above in the original post in /Library/Application Support/Subsonic/transcode, you should put the files (or links to the files) in /var/subsonic/transcode/ instead.
