ok i LOVE subsonic, but my home internet connection isnt the best, and its pretty annoying when im away and cannot connect to subsonic. I was thinking about getting server space somewhere but completely clueless on how id work.
I was looking at googles server space, and it seems VERY cheap, 20$ a year for 80gb, but im not entirely sure how their server space works, if its like to their exisiting apps, like picasa, docs etc... or if I could upload my music to that and use subsonic to fetch it from there.
also if that wont work, anyone know any good server hosting, and how do i get subsonic to pull from a server?

Carbonite and other file hosting services just gives you space to store files. They do not give you CPU/RAM to execute your own script. You need an "active" server to execute your subsonic software.

ok looking at gigapros hosting since subsonic recommends them. but they show these hosting options

was thinking about the 5.95 a month deal which seems really good. Just because I dont want to pay for something and not be fully aware how it all works. and if that option works since maybe its not the same
With gigapros I will upload all my music etc.. to it, how does subsonic pull from it? (setting it up)
mainly looking at this because itd be up all the time, and my music would be available and not have to worry about my computer not working. or internet going out

Hello rozzi,
We do not just provide online storage space, we provide a fully configured (as in, ready-to-use) instance of subsonic software + the space. So, the moment you buy our Subsonic Server, you simply have to upload your music.....that's all. Our server have fully functional Subsonic software pre-installed on it. Consider it just like this --

Our normal hosting (that you pointed out below) is just to serve web pages and not subsonic. So, subsonic won't run on a shared hosting.
Since we launched Instant Sunsonic Hosting recently, we are still open to feedbacks about the features & prices that our potential customers are looking for. So, what's your fair budget for an Instant Subsonic Server with 32GB storage space?

well the price im looking at is probably not doable, i was looking for around 10ish$ a month since I do have it on my computer being hosted and it does work perfectly fine about 75-80% of the time and Im not able to pay 30-40$ for something thats not a necessity.

After re-calculating our prices, here's what we can get down to (see below). Let me know how it looks like.

$9.95/mo for 16GB disk space & unlimited traffic

$16.95/mo for 32GB disk space & unlimited traffic
Of course you won't be able to dump your entire music collection, but you will certainly be able to store all your "real favorite" songs.

There seem to be a few of these threads on the forums lately about using regular web hosting accounts to host Subsonic... I'd like to try to clear a few things up.
- You need some kind of terminal access (SSH) to your server.
- Just because your web host provides SSH does not mean you can install Subsonic. Most web hosts would not allow this kind of behavior, even if it was physically possible.
If you're not sure if it's allowed on your web host, it's best to contact their support department to ask them. If you're running Subsonic on their server without their consent, they will find out and you'll likely face account termination at the very least.
That being said, if you have an unmanaged dedicated server or VPS, you should be able to run Subsonic on that kind of resource.
Cheers,
Kirk
