Indexing issues

I'm using Subsonic 4.1 but in each version that I've used I have had issues with the indexing. Specifically, Subsonic will index folders that contain a folder.jpg and include those on the listing on the left even when there are no music files in those folders.

Also, while I was able to get Subsonic to index my entire 800 GB+ collection by increasing the memory allocation it won't allow me to search for artists that are towards the end of the alphabet. The Morning Benders pull up just fine but The Notwist won't appear when I do a search.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

At the risk of sounding pushy or something... If you don't want the folder to show up, then don't put it there, heh. I usually leave "empty" folders in my Incoming folder and move them out once they're filled. Otherwise, I lose track of what I was doing. I don't think it's a glitch per say, it's just that the behavior you're describing is how Subsonic does it.

There have been a few times when I've thought stuff was missing from the search index, but in my case, every single time it was that the "Artist" part of the ID3 tag wasn't filled out on the music file. Subsonic uses ID3 tags for searches, not folders and filenames.

If it really is just the last quarter of your collection or something - I remember reading one time that Subsonic has some kind of upward limit for the search database. But I never confirmed whether that was the case... my collection is about 350GB and I can report no problems with the search index, but your collection is a lot bigger than mine so I guess I speak from pretty limited experience.

Cheers,
Kirk

I use MediaMonkey to manage my collection and am very diligent in making sure files are tagged appropriately - no missing Artist tags here! Unfortunately MediaMonkey doesn't always clean up my folders properly when I move files around or delete them so I end up with some folders with folder.jpg files and no music files and with close to 900GB of music it becomes quite time-consuming to track all those near-empty folders down.

I had something really odd happen yesterday, though. Subsonic became unresponsive and wouldn't connect and I couldn't get it to stop the service using the command line, so I went into the Task Manager and then the Services control panel and restarted it from there. After that I was able to search through my entire collection with no issues! However, after it updated the search index that night it returned to the previous behavior. Any thoughts as to why this would've occurred, and how to ensure that my full collection remains indexed and searchable?
