I Just installed Opensuse 11.3 64-bit with java 1.6 and tomcat6. I placed the subsonic.war file inside of /tomcat6/webapps, but I keep receiving an HTTP 404 error.
Apache is running fine (It works!) and the tomcat default page comes up on port 8080, so it appears apache and tomcat are fine. Is it because I'm using Tomcat6 instead of 5? Any ideas? I've tried 4.1 and 4.0.1. Same result. Thanks.

I tried that without success. The thing is, I can go to localhost:8080 and the tomcat configuration page comes up, but when I type localhost:8080/subsonic (or use server ip, or use server hostname), I get the 404. It's like it doesn't even see the subsonic.war file.

Does tomcat record any logs that you can check? I know that apache does (most likely in /var/log/apache/). Probably worth locating both sets if you can, then trying your different URLs in a browser, one at a time, whilst checking new output in the logs, for any useful it might spit out.
One thing to also double check, what has Subsonic been configured to be bound to, both hostname and port wise?

Look under look under tomcat/webapps/ and look for a folder called subsonic. When you restart the tomcat server it's supposed to uncompress the subsonic.war file. If it doesn't then use a program like winrar to uncompress the .war file and put the subsonic folder under the webapps folder.
