Subsonic Forum

so i've used subsonic for a few months with no problems until now.
subsonic states that my port forwarding to 80 is fine however its unable to connect to my subsonic address.



so im kinda at a lost. not all too savy when it comes to networking, part of why i enjoyed subsonic if the first place. i was able to install it and it just worked haha. any help would be most appreciated, im dying at the office/my drive to the office without my server running.

Pardon me for tracing your IP from the screenshot, but I noticed you're a Charter user. Charter does block port 80 in some markets. It may very well be forwarded in your router, but Charter is preventing the connection from being established.

Try changing your Subsonic port to something less obvious. 8080 and 4040 are commonly used for Subsonic. People who have port 80 blocked also sometimes opt to use 81.

haha oops that was a dumb move on my part, well in either case. how exactly would i go about changing the port for subsonic? thanks for the suggestions.

If youre using Windows, right click on the tray icon and open up the Subsonic panel. In one of the panes, you'll see an option for port. Stop the subsonic service, change the port, and start it up again.

I too am having trouble, I just installed Subsonic, and cant connect. I'm not good at networking either, I tried things I have seen on this forum to no avail. I have Clearwire, I try to stop the service with the stop button and doesnt seem to do anything, Try to change the port and it tells me "failed to write----------access denied??? I am lost, but would really like to get this working, can anyone help please?

I just stopped the subsonic service in services in the control panel, and it still wont let me change the port address....very frustrating.

Billp what version of Windows are you using?

I am using Windows Vista. I have clearwire for my internet.

Vista has a bunch of security features that don't work quite as well as Windows 7's...

Try disabling your Windows firewall temporarily and seeing if that fixes the problem. If it does we know we need a firewall rule.

I did try that and didnt change anything, Thanks tho. I will try it on my win 7 laptop and see if that works....

I am having a similar problem. I am connected to port 4040 and I keep getting the xxxxx.subsonic.org is registered, but could not connect to it. (ConnectTimeoutException) message.

It was working fine and then it just stopped.

I am on a Mac. Please help!

In my case, it's resolving the completely wrong outside IP to my router. Mine starts at 70.xxx.xxx.xxx and it's resolving to 97.xxx.xxx.xxx.

I had a similar issue and after speaking with Sindre it miscellaneously resolved itself. My subsonic.org domain was directing to my old IP address because I'm on a dynamic IP with Charter. Port 80 and 443 are not blocked. That would be ridiculous since web traffic primarily travels over these ports. Regardless, I was able to test this by using DYNDNS.org and setting up a redirection to my box which instantly worked. So, proof there is no block on the ports and that my service was running...for me anyway.

Here is what I did and why I think it worked.

Sindre told me the web addresses update IPs every 120 minutes. Or at least that's what I remember him saying. So what I did was make sure Subsonic knew I wanted it to go out and register again. Under your Network settings uncheck your "Automatically configure your router..." and "Access your server over the internet..." boxes. Save. Recheck your Automatically configure router box. Save. Check the Access your server box again and save. It may take an hour but after I did that my redirection updated to the proper IP and it worked.

This sucks with dynamic IP addresses but to put in a permanent workaround I use DYNDNS.org. You can register for free and use their free redirection tool to access your box over the web just like with the Subsonic address. They also offer a free tool which runs as a service which monitors your IP and if it changes, dynamically updates it with DYNDNS.org and at least allows you a path to your box should your power flux and knock your modem out ... changing your IP address.

Of course, Subsonic host could monitor more frequently but it's still a great service.

Thanks tripaphonic, but I can't seem to fix my problem. This is a real bummer since it just stopped working randomly after working fine since I have been using the service.

Anyone else have any ideas? I want my music back!
