Turn off song caching in Android Client?

Postby skyshock21 » Wed Oct 13, 2010 3:18 am

I set my Android client to cache songs locally, and now I don't want them there anymore. I don't see the option how to do this. I've tried going into app settings and clearing data/cache, but no avail.

Halp.

Also, it would be nice if you guys used the settings button for settings context menu since it comes standard on all android devices instead of using a settings UI element in the main app in the middle of the presentation screen. It makes for a disjoint experience compared to all other Android apps.

Also, it's not necessary to have an "X" button in the top right corner mimicking a desktop UI. Android is smart enough to know when to kill apps and when not to. The Home button is much more suited for leaving an app behind and going to the home screen. Or you could put such functionality under the Settings context menu if you used the Settings button to fall in line with most every other Android app.

Where can I file bugs/feature requests for things like these?

From what I can see, the cache needs to be at least 100MB. If you can't spare that room, consider upgrading to a larger SD card.

I've only recently started using SubSonic (a few months ago), but IIRC, simply hitting the Home button and 'pausing' the app did not freeze downloading/caching of songs. So unless you force-quit the app or cleared your playlist, your 3G bandwidth would continue to be saturated by songs downloading. The [X] button gives you the option of closing the app AND stopping downloads while the Home button simply 'minimizes' the app and allows pre-loading of songs to go on in the background.

The Feature Requests Forum: http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=3
Note that there is a topic specifically for Android App requests.

No no, I can spare the room, I just don't want the songs stored on the SD card after they're finished playing because then my normal Music app tries to index them and I get a whole bunch of half-downloaded cruft sitting in my library. I seem to recall there being a setting somewhere that asked you if you wanted to cache files locally for offline playback. This is what I DON'T want. I don't want offline playback and I don't want files to remain on my SDcard after streaming them over the network.

Yeah and that's totally fine, but this should go under the settings context menu then like every other android app.

Here's a quick fix in case this isn't addressed: Create a file on your SD card in "/subsonic/music/" called ".nomedia" (note the period at the beginning of the filename as it is necessary). This keeps your local apps from scanning the directory and its subdirectories for media, so the songs won't appear in your other Music apps. You can also use this trick to hide other media from media-scanning apps (such as album-art from your camera gallery).
